DESCRIPTION

An attractive 18th century Chinese export porcelain deep saucer dating to the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, decorated in the European-inspired Carnaieu pink style. The interior features a delicate arrangement of flowering roses, buds and smaller blossoms painted in soft pink, purple and orange enamels, complemented by warm brown and gilt foliage. The floral sprays are arranged asymmetrically across the white porcelain ground, creating an elegant and balanced composition. The gently curved sides are decorated with small floral sprigs and fine purple linework, while a narrow gilt band highlights the rim. The restrained palette and graceful floral painting reflect the influence of European decorative taste on Chinese export porcelain.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

During the Qianlong period, Chinese porcelain workshops produced finely enamelled wares specifically for European export markets. Floral designs inspired by European porcelain and botanical decoration became particularly fashionable, often featuring soft pink roses, delicate purple flowers and gilded accents. This deep saucer is a charming example of the cross-cultural artistic exchange that characterised 18th century Chinese export porcelain, retaining decorative and historical interest despite its small restored rim crack.
