DESCRIPTION

Antique Chinese export porcelain plate finely painted in underglaze cobalt blue. The central scene depicts a standing lady and seated boy in a garden landscape beside water, with stylized pine trees and a distant pagoda. The border is decorated with floral and scroll motifs in alternating panels. The painting is delicate and well balanced, typical of mid 18th century export porcelain. An attractive Qing period decorative example.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Blue and white export porcelain from the Qianlong period was highly sought after in Europe during the 18th century. Narrative figural scenes featuring ladies and children were popular decorative themes inspired by Chinese scholarly and garden imagery. Pieces with honest age wear remain desirable among collectors of antique Chinese ceramics.
