An attractive Japanese Arita-style porcelain bowl decorated with bold cobalt blue floral motifs against a white glazed ground. The exterior features stylised flowers with scrolling leaves and flowing stems, creating a balanced traditional design. Additional red painted Japanese characters provide an interesting contrast to the blue decoration. The bowl has gently flared sides, a rounded body and a raised circular foot. Despite its restored condition, the piece retains considerable decorative character and offers an appealing example of Japanese blue and white porcelain craftsmanship.
COLLECTOR’S NOTE
Arita porcelain has been produced in Japan since the early 17th century and is celebrated for its distinctive blue and white decoration. Floral patterns have remained popular throughout Japanese ceramic history, reflecting traditional artistic influences and decorative symbolism. This bowl follows established Arita-style designs and may appeal to collectors of Japanese ceramics, particularly those interested in restored historical decorative wares.
