DESCRIPTION

Fine Chinese porcelain saucer decorated in underglaze cobalt blue.The central scene depicts a mountainous river landscape with fisherman and pavilion.The rim is decorated with a scrolling grapevine and bat motif border.The reverse features a brown Batavian style glazed exterior common to export wares.A well painted example dating to the Kangxi period of the Qing dynasty.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Batavian wares were produced for the export market during the Kangxi period and are highly collected today.The contrast between the rich brown exterior glaze and blue and white interior decoration is especially admired.Landscape scenes of this type reflect traditional Chinese scholar painting aesthetics.
