DESCRIPTION

A Japanese Arita porcelain bowl with elegant lotus petal shaped rim dating to the late Meiji period. Decorated in the traditional Imari palette of cobalt blue, iron red, and soft gilt highlights. The interior features a bold stylized lotus medallion, while the exterior and rim panels display floral and pine motifs within shaped cartouches. Raised on a short circular foot with underglaze blue border decoration. An attractive decorative example of late 19th century Japanese export porcelain.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Arita kilns produced some of Japan’s most celebrated export porcelains during the Meiji era. Imari wares of this period are appreciated for their vibrant palette, detailed hand painting, and decorative forms inspired by earlier Edo period designs. Lotus petal rims were especially popular in export markets for their elegant presentation.
