DESCRIPTION

A rare Sawankhalok stoneware bowl with pale celadon glaze and underglaze iron-painted floral decoration. The interior is decorated with a central concentric roundel surrounded by scrolling floral sprays, while the exterior carries matching scrolling vine decoration. The bowl exhibits severe firing faults, distortion, and cracking consistent with a kiln waster discarded during production. Such pieces provide valuable insight into historical ceramic manufacturing techniques.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Kiln wasters are ceramic pieces rejected during the firing process due to warping, cracking, glaze faults, or other production defects. Excavated examples from the Sawankhalok kilns are collected for their archaeological significance, offering direct evidence of the manufacturing practices of one of Thailand’s most important medieval ceramic industries.

NOTES

Please review all photos carefully as they form part of the description. This piece is offered as an authentic kiln waster with original firing imperfections and associated losses.
