DESCRIPTION

An elegant French Sevres style porcelain tazza or pedestal dish dating to the 20th century. The broad circular dish is raised on a spreading pedestal foot and decorated with a delicate pale blue border of scrolling floral ornament against a white porcelain ground. Rich gilt decoration includes repeating Greek key borders around the rim and foot together with a finely detailed central gilt medallion. The pedestal repeats the blue floral decoration, creating a balanced and cohesive design. The restrained palette of pale blue, white and gold gives the piece a refined Neoclassical character typical of French decorative porcelain inspired by Sevres.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Sevres style porcelain was widely produced in France during the 19th century, drawing inspiration from the celebrated decorative vocabulary of the royal Sevres manufactory. Pedestal dishes and tazzas with colored grounds, elaborate gilding and Neoclassical borders were fashionable decorative and table wares and remain attractive additions to collections of French porcelain.
