DESCRIPTION

A finely potted English Worcester porcelain saucer decorated in rich underglaze cobalt blue. The design features an elaborate arrangement of scrolling ruyi-inspired foliate motifs surrounding a central medallion in a distinctly chinoiserie style. The reverse bears a blue pseudo-Chinese seal mark, a feature commonly found on Worcester porcelain influenced by Chinese export wares. A decorative and collectible example of 19th-century English porcelain.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

During the 19th century, Worcester produced many blue and white porcelains inspired by Chinese decorative arts. Pseudo-Chinese marks and stylized oriental motifs were fashionable and reflected the enduring popularity of Chinese export porcelain among European collectors and patrons.
