CONDITION

DESCRIPTION

Small Chinese porcelain saucer decorated in underglaze cobalt blue on a white ground. The center features a stylized lotus and peony blossom medallion enclosed by a finely painted phoenix feather border. The rim is decorated with an intricate diaper pattern interspersed with spearhead motifs. Delicately potted with softly scalloped form characteristic of Qing export wares. An attractive 18th century example with refined decorative detail.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Qianlong period blue and white porcelains are admired for their detailed border ornament and balanced compositions. Diaper borders and feather-style bands were popular decorative devices in Qing export porcelain intended for both Asian and European markets. Smaller saucers of this type were often produced as part of tea and dessert services during the 18th century.
