An 18th century Chinese export porcelain saucer dating to the Qing Dynasty, Qianlong period. The interior is decorated in the Mandarin famille rose palette with two figures in a garden and pavilion setting overlooking a landscape. The central scene is framed by a decorative puce diaper border with shaped reserves, iron red ornament and gilt details. The gently shaped rim and colorful figural decoration are characteristic of Chinese export porcelain produced during the Qianlong period.
COLLECTOR’S NOTE
Mandarin palette porcelain was produced extensively for the European export market during the later 18th century. Figural scenes combining elegantly dressed figures, gardens, architecture and landscapes became a distinctive feature of this decorative tradition.
