DESCRIPTION

Chinese porcelain saucer dating to the Qing Dynasty and Qianlong period, decorated with a detailed flowering garden composition. Large peonies, foliage, rockwork and geometric garden elements are painted in underglaze cobalt blue, enriched with scattered famille rose enamel flowers in pink, green, yellow and orange. A blue decorative border frames the interior near the rim. The combination of underglaze blue painting and colorful overglaze enamels gives the piece a particularly decorative 18th-century character.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

The combination of traditional underglaze cobalt blue with famille rose enamels became an important decorative approach during the Qing Dynasty. Peonies were especially popular in Chinese porcelain decoration and traditionally conveyed associations with wealth, prosperity and high status.
