DESCRIPTION
Chinese porcelain plate of the Qianlong period, decorated in Famille Rose enamels with a central flowering peony beside bamboo. Colourful floral sprays, insects and fruit motifs ornament the cavetto and rim, while traces of gilding survive around the edge. The pink blossoms and green foliage create a lively composition against the white porcelain ground.
COLLECTOR’S NOTE
The peony traditionally represents wealth and honour, while bamboo is associated with resilience and integrity. The combination of floral decoration and coloured enamels makes this plate an attractive study example for collectors of Qianlong period porcelain, despite its condition issues.
