DESCRIPTION

Chinese porcelain octagonal plate decorated with a delicate famille rose landscape featuring rocks, pavilion architecture, trees, and fencing in soft pastel enamels. The broad border is painted in deep underglaze cobalt blue with floral and scrolling motifs creating strong contrast against the pale ground. Finely potted with shaped rim and elegant balanced composition typical of export wares of the Qing period. The restrained central landscape adds refinement to the richly decorated border.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Eighteenth century Chinese export porcelain often combined underglaze blue decoration with overglaze famille rose enamels for Western markets. Octagonal forms were especially popular during the Qianlong era and reflect European taste influencing Chinese production at Canton and Jingdezhen. Pieces with strong cobalt decoration remain highly collectible decorative examples of Qing export porcelain.
