CONDITION

FAIR (3/5) – Hairline cracks visible extending from the rim, with age related wear, rubbing to the gilt decoration, and minor glaze imperfections. No obvious restoration observed in the photographs. Please review the photos carefully for more details.

DESCRIPTION

An attractive Chinese Export porcelain bowl dating to the Qianlong period of the 18th century.
The exterior is decorated with finely painted sepia harbor or shipyard scenes enclosed within rich blue and gilt medallions.
The interior features an elegant blue and gilt enamel border framing the scalloped rim.
A fine example of Chinese Export porcelain made for the Western market, displaying the refined palette and decoration popular during the late 18th century.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Chinese Export bowls with sepia landscape decoration were produced for European and American trade during the Qianlong period.
Examples retaining their original blue and gilt borders remain desirable to collectors, particularly when paired with related forms such as helmet pitchers and other tablewares.
