DESCRIPTION

Chinese porcelain platter of the Qianlong period, painted in underglaze blue with a river landscape incorporating pavilions, boats, trees and rocky outcrops. Distant mountains and flying birds complete the scene. A geometric border frames the cavetto, while butterflies, floral scrolls and decorative motifs enrich the broad rim. The detailed composition provides an attractive example of Chinese blue and white export porcelain.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Landscape decoration is a familiar feature of Chinese export porcelain, combining architectural details with an imagined natural setting. The old metal staple repairs record an earlier method of preserving damaged ceramics and form part of this platter’s history.
