DESCRIPTION
A Chinese porcelain oval tea stand dating to the Qing Dynasty, Qianlong period, painted in underglaze cobalt blue. The central reserve depicts a traditional landscape with pavilion, trees, distant buildings and small figures, framed by a richly patterned floral and geometric border. The gently raised oval form rests on an unglazed foot rim and displays characteristic firing irregularities and kiln marks to the reverse. An attractive example of 18th century Chinese blue and white export porcelain with strong period character.
COLLECTOR’S NOTE
Oval tea stands formed part of Chinese export tea services made for European markets during the 18th century. Landscape subjects combining architecture, figures, water and vegetation were particularly popular on Qianlong period export porcelain and remain a recognizable collecting category.
