DESCRIPTION
A Chinese porcelain platter decorated in underglaze cobalt blue with a scenic literati landscape composition. The design features pavilions, bridges, boats, trees, and distant mountains framed by geometric and diaper-pattern borders.
The octagonal form and broad decorative rim are characteristic of export porcelains produced during the Qing Dynasty. The painting displays pleasing tonal variation and careful architectural detail.
Historic metal staple repairs remain visible and add to the authentic character of the piece.
COLLECTOR’S NOTE
Blue and white porcelain landscape wares were highly popular export items during the Qing Dynasty and reflected European demand for Chinese decorative arts. Scenic compositions inspired by scholarly painting traditions remained in production through the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
Antique staple restorations are traditional period repairs and are often retained by collectors as evidence of historic preservation and use.
