CONDITION

DESCRIPTION

An elegant Chinese export porcelain plate decorated in underglaze cobalt blue. The central scene depicts quails in a peaceful landscape with flowering trees, bamboo, and water plants. The wide border is richly painted with scrolling floral and diaper motifs in the classic Qianlong export style. The octagonal form and refined brushwork reflect the high quality of 18th century Qing porcelain production. A decorative and historically interesting example of blue and white export ware.

Quails in Chinese decorative art symbolize peace, courage, and harmony between generations. Such imagery was especially appreciated in Qing dynasty porcelain intended for both domestic and export markets.
