CONDITION

DESCRIPTION

Chinese porcelain plate finely painted in underglaze blue with a river landscape centred on a walled pavilion complex among trees and rocky banks. An arched bridge with small figures leads towards a waterside building, while a covered boat crosses the water beneath distant mountains and a tall pagoda. A narrow scroll band frames the scene, surrounded by an elaborate border of flowering sprays, diaper panels and circular motifs. A brown-dressed edge completes the rim, with a plain glazed reverse and raised circular foot.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

The detailed architecture, tiny figures and varied foliage reward close inspection. Fine cobalt lines and shaded washes create depth across the landscape, balanced by the densely patterned floral border.
