DESCRIPTION
Chinese Kangxi porcelain plate originally decorated in underglaze blue and white, later enriched with vivid polychrome enamels and gilding attributed to London during the Regency period. The central garden design features flowering peony, bamboo, rockwork and a fence, with a green dragon extending across the upper border into the well. The broad green-ground border contains floral reserves and scattered blossoms, framed by iron-red bands and a gilt rim. The reverse bears iron-red floral sprays and a later pseudo-Chinese mark added as part of the clobbered decoration.
COLLECTOR’S NOTE
The original blue-and-white decoration remains visible beneath the later coloured enamels, allowing both stages of decoration to be appreciated. The pseudo-Chinese mark belongs to the later decorative scheme and is not an original Kangxi reign mark.
