DESCRIPTION

Chinese porcelain plate painted in underglaze blue with a central arrangement of auspicious objects, including a flower-filled vase, scrolls, books and ribbon-tied ornaments. A narrow band of small decorative motifs surrounds the well, beneath a broad border of shaped cartouches containing lotus and flowering sprays, interspersed with bold ruyi heads. A narrow brown-dressed rim frames the composition. The reverse carries freely painted blue floral sprigs around a plain glazed base and raised circular foot.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

The detailed central arrangement and alternating floral cartouches offer an appealing variety of cobalt brushwork. The old staple repairs remain clearly visible on the reverse, recording an earlier effort to preserve the plate.
