DESCRIPTION
Chinese porcelain plate painted in underglaze blue with a spreading willow tree beside flowering peonies and a rocky platform supporting auspicious objects and vessels. Fine outlines and shaded washes define the drooping foliage, layered petals and ornamental details. A narrow scrolling band surrounds the central scene, while butterflies, flowers and patterned panels decorate the broad border beneath a brown-dressed rim. The reverse is plain, with a glazed base and raised circular foot.
COLLECTOR’S NOTE
The combination of garden flowers and carefully arranged objects gives the central composition considerable decorative interest. The surviving metal staples also provide a visible record of the plate’s earlier repair.
