DESCRIPTION

A small Chinese porcelain baluster vase decorated in underglaze cobalt blue on a white ground. The hand painted scene depicts a stylized landscape with pine trees, rockwork, water, and a small pavilion. The vase has a gently flared neck and compact form typical of later decorative export wares. Finished with a recessed base left unmarked. An attractive miniature display piece with traditional Chinese landscape decoration.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Blue and white porcelain remained one of the most enduring ceramic traditions in China, with 20th century examples continuing to reproduce classical landscape themes inspired by earlier Qing dynasty wares. Miniature cabinet vases such as this were popular decorative objects for both domestic and export markets.
