DESCRIPTION
A miniature Chinese porcelain bottle vase with a rounded body and elongated slender neck, decorated in famille rose enamels on a white ground. The principal scene depicts a finely rendered quail standing among grasses, pink blossoms and turquoise-green foliage. The reverse carries a short calligraphic inscription, while the upper neck is ornamented with repeating black ruyi head motifs and pendant designs beneath linear borders. The underside bears a red seal mark within the recessed base. A charming small-scale decorative vase combining bird, flower and traditional ornamental motifs.
COLLECTOR’S NOTE
Quail are a traditional subject in Chinese decorative art and are frequently depicted with flowers and grasses in auspicious compositions. Ruyi head borders are likewise drawn from a long-established Chinese ornamental vocabulary, making this miniature vase an attractive 20th century interpretation of classical porcelain decoration.
