DESCRIPTION
A decorative Chinese porcelain Gu form vase dating to the Qing Dynasty, 19th century, painted in the colourful Famille Verte palette. The tall, slender body features a flared trumpet-shaped neck and spreading foot, decorated with lively scenes of warriors on horseback, armed figures and attendants among stylized mountains and trees. Bright green, yellow, iron-red, pink and blue enamels contrast against an ivory-white crackled glaze. The upper and lower borders feature textured brown bands with incised decorative patterns. The underside bears a four-character Chenghua mark in brown. An attractive example of traditional Chinese decorative porcelain with detailed narrative scenes and strong visual appeal.
COLLECTOR’S NOTE
Gu form vases were inspired by ancient Chinese bronze ritual vessels and remained popular throughout the Qing Dynasty. Famille Verte porcelain is admired for its colourful enamel decoration and detailed historical and warrior subjects. The Chenghua mark is apocryphal and does not indicate manufacture during the Ming Dynasty. This example combines a classical form with lively figurative decoration, making it an appealing piece for collectors of Chinese ceramics.
