DESCRIPTION

A Chinese porcelain lidded vase of elegant baluster form, decorated in a vibrant famille rose palette. The body features large pink peonies and flowering branches rising around blue rockwork, with turquoise foliage and a delicately painted butterfly. Pink diaper-pattern borders with floral reserves frame the principal decoration, while gilt accents enrich the rim, foot and lid. The domed cover is similarly decorated with flowering sprays and surmounted by a rounded finial. Despite its restored condition, the vase retains attractive color, strong decorative presence and considerable period character.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Famille rose porcelain reached a high level of refinement during the Yongzheng period, with characteristic soft pink enamels complemented by turquoise, green and other translucent colors. Floral subjects such as peonies were particularly favored, the peony traditionally carrying associations with wealth, honor and prosperity in Chinese decorative art.
