DESCRIPTION

A decorative 19th century Chinese Qing Dynasty porcelain cup painted in colorful Canton Rose enamels. The exterior features an abundant flower basket surrounded by flowering branches, foliage, and vividly rendered butterflies. Gilt highlights accent the rim, foot, and loop handle, adding contrast to the polychrome decoration. The cup has a gently flared profile raised on a short circular foot and displays the lively ornamental character associated with Canton export porcelain.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Canton decorated porcelain was produced for the export market and became particularly popular during the 19th century. Elaborate combinations of flowers, butterflies, birds, figures, and gilding made these wares distinctive decorative objects and they remain widely collected as examples of Qing Dynasty Chinese export porcelain.
