CONDITION

FAIR/RESTORED (2/5) – Chipped and glued, with restored breaks, visible hairlines, rim chips and frits, enamel and gilt wear, and general age-related surface wear. Please review the photos carefully for more details.

DESCRIPTION

An 18th century Chinese export porcelain cup bowl dating to the Qing Dynasty, Qianlong period. The exterior is decorated in famille rose enamels with a prominent pink rose and smaller floral sprays in green, purple and iron red. The interior carries a colorful ornamental border of iron red scrollwork with green, purple and blue details, together with a small central motif. Traces of gilding remain among the painted decoration. The gently flared form and lively enamel palette retain attractive period character despite the historic damage and restoration.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Famille rose porcelain formed an important part of Chinese export production during the 18th century, with colorful floral decoration particularly favored for European tablewares. This small Qianlong period example retains the decorative character associated with Qing export porcelain despite its restored condition.
