CONDITION

FAIR (3/5) – Hairline crack fainted to rim and underside with rim fritting and glaze wear. Surface wear consistent with age. Please review the photos carefully for more details.

DESCRIPTION

Chinese porcelain plate decorated in underglaze cobalt blue in the Kangxi. The center features flowering peony branches with a perched bird, surrounded by floral sprays around the border. The rim retains a brown dressed edge typical of export porcelain of the period. The reverse is simply decorated with blue floral sprays. A pleasing example of early Qing blue and white porcelain.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Blue and white porcelain from the Kangxi period remains highly regarded for its vibrant cobalt tones and balanced floral compositions. Smaller export plates such as this were widely traded during the 18th century and are appreciated for their refined painting and practical table form.
