DESCRIPTION
An attractive antique Ridgways covered serving dish in the Hyde pattern, produced in England in Royal Semi Porcelain. The circular dish has a decorative scalloped and moulded border, complemented by a domed cover with a shaped central knop. Both pieces are decorated with scattered sprays of yellow and pink flowers with green and brown foliage against a creamy white ground. Gilt highlights originally accented the rims, moulded details and cover, with considerable wear now giving the piece an appealing aged character. The underside carries the printed Ridgways England Royal Semi Porcelain HYDE crown mark. A decorative example of early 20th century English tableware suitable for a period ceramics collection or traditional display.
COLLECTOR’S NOTE
Ridgways was a notable Staffordshire pottery manufacturer associated with a broad range of decorative and domestic ceramics. Royal Semi Porcelain wares combined practical tableware forms with elaborate moulding, transfer decoration and gilded details, making surviving covered serving pieces appealing examples of English period tableware.
