DESCRIPTION
Japanese porcelain cover decorated in underglaze cobalt blue with figures of immortals arranged around bamboo groves.
The interior rim features a repeating geometric border, while the edge is finished with a traditional brown dressed rim.
The underside bears a blue square mark and continues the figural decoration around the exterior.
Well potted with a low domed profile and neatly finished foot ring.
An attractive example of Meiji period blue and white porcelain.
COLLECTOR’S NOTE
Blue and white porcelains depicting immortals and scholarly figures remained popular throughout the Meiji period, drawing inspiration from earlier Chinese decorative traditions.
