DESCRIPTION
A finely potted Vietnamese celadon deep bowl dating to the Ly Dynasty, featuring an elegant rounded form with molded lotus petal decoration around the lower exterior. The bowl is covered in a soft olive-green celadon glaze with attractive natural crackle.
Double incised bands encircle the upper body beneath the rim, adding subtle refinement to the design. The interior is simply finished, emphasizing the quality of the glaze and the graceful proportions. The base retains Christie’s auction labels, providing documented auction provenance.
COLLECTOR’S NOTE
Vietnamese Ly Dynasty celadon wares are highly regarded for their refined forms, restrained decoration, and luminous glazes. Lotus petal motifs were a favored decorative element inspired by Buddhist symbolism, making these bowls desirable examples of early Vietnamese ceramic production.
