CONDITION

DESCRIPTION

A vintage Portmeirion Pottery coffee saucer from the iconic Totem range designed by Susan Williams-Ellis and introduced in 1963. This example is finished in a distinctive deep cobalt blue monochrome glaze and features a simple circular form with concentric moulded rings defining the cup well and border. The strong glaze and restrained geometric form are characteristic of Portmeirion’s British Mid-Century Modern production. The base carries a Portmeirion mark, confirming the maker. An attractive single replacement saucer or display piece for a Totem collection.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Portmeirion Totem was introduced in 1963 and became one of Susan Williams-Ellis’s most recognizable designs. Its sculptural forms, geometric decoration and distinctive monochrome glazes make the range popular with collectors of 1960s British and Mid-Century Modern pottery.
