DESCRIPTION

A Japanese porcelain sake bottle vase dating to the Meiji period in the 19th century. The slender bottle form has a gently flared mouth and is decorated in colorful enamels with gilt details. The principal scene depicts an elegantly dressed Japanese woman holding an open fan, rendered in purple, turquoise, red, yellow and black enamels against a landscape setting. The reverse carries flowering branches and a lightly painted landscape, creating attractive decoration around the body. A decorative example of Japanese Meiji period porcelain with strong traditional figural character.
