DESCRIPTION
A Japanese blue and white porcelain bowl dish of lobed form dating to the 19th century. The central scene depicts the Hehe boys within a traditional landscape of rocks, trees, and water, painted in varying tones of underglaze blue. The shaped border is richly decorated with geometric patterns and alternating panels, while the exterior carries further stylized blue motifs. The dish stands on a circular foot and bears a small square mark to the recessed base. Despite the old restoration, it remains an attractive decorative example with strong period character.
COLLECTOR’S NOTE
The Hehe boys are an auspicious East Asian subject associated with harmony, happiness, and unity, and were frequently represented in decorative arts. Combined with the lobed form, dense border decoration, and square base mark, this dish has appealing character for collectors of 19th century Japanese blue and white porcelain.
