A charming vintage circular porcelain trinket or pill box decorated with a colorful classical figural scene after Angelica Kauffman. The domed lid depicts two elegantly dressed women with a child in a wooded landscape, rendered in vivid pink, purple, green, and brown tones. The lid is inscribed “Angelica Kauffman” within the decoration. The white porcelain body is fitted with an aged brass tone metal surround, hinged lid, and front clasp. A decorative and compact piece with appealing Continental character, suitable for a collection of porcelain boxes or classical revival decorative wares.
COLLECTOR’S NOTE
Angelica Kauffman was an important 18th century Neoclassical painter whose graceful allegorical and classical compositions were widely reproduced on European decorative arts. Porcelain boxes bearing scenes after her work became popular decorative and souvenir objects, combining classical imagery with practical small-scale forms.
