DESCRIPTION

An attractive English porcelain decorative plate dating to the 20th century, featuring a finely painted exotic fancy bird perched within a colourful landscape of flowering trees and greenery. The central circular scene is framed by a rich royal blue ground with gilt bands and a delicate dotted border. The broad black outer border is elaborately decorated with scrolling gilt ornament, miniature multicoloured floral garlands and alternating shell-shaped medallions in cobalt blue, iron red and gold. The combination of vibrant colours, intricate gilding and elaborate ornament gives the plate a striking decorative appearance inspired by traditional English ornamental porcelain and Chinoiserie design. The underside is unmarked. An appealing display piece with considerable visual character.

Decorative porcelain featuring exotic birds, elaborate gilding and richly coloured grounds reflects the continuing influence of 18th and 19th-century English ceramic traditions.
