DESCRIPTION

An English pearlware plate decorated in blue with an extensive chinoiserie landscape featuring pagoda style buildings, trees, rocky terrain, water and distant boats. The central composition is surrounded by a dense geometric border incorporating floral and stylized decorative panels. The gently scalloped rim adds further visual interest to the form. The blue decoration shows attractive variation in tone and retains strong period character despite signs of age and use.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

English pearlware decorated with Chinese-inspired landscapes became highly popular during the late 18th and 19th centuries.
