DESCRIPTION

English Delftware plate decorated in underglaze cobalt blue on a pale tin-glazed ground. The center features a chinoiserie style floral arrangement within a scalloped reserve, surrounded by a geometric diaper border with stylized motifs. The broad rim and hand painted decoration reflect traditional 18th century English Delft production. An attractive early decorative pottery example with strong folk art character.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

English Delftware was heavily influenced by Dutch and Chinese ceramic traditions during the 17th and 18th centuries. Blue and white examples with chinoiserie decoration were popular domestic wares and remain highly collectible today. Pieces showing authentic wear and crazing are appreciated for their historical character and handmade quality.
