DESCRIPTION
A Chinese wooden display stand designed for presenting a plate, dish or other decorative object. The stand has a shaped platform with raised front rests and a tall curved upright terminating in a padded rectangular support. Finished in black, the surface has substantial age-related wear revealing the natural wood beneath and giving the piece a distinctive aged character. A visible crack is present to the upper support and should be considered when selecting an object for display. The shaped construction and traditional form are well suited to the presentation of Chinese ceramics and decorative works of art.
COLLECTOR’S NOTE
Wooden stands were commonly used to enhance the presentation of Chinese ceramics and decorative objects. This 20th century example follows a traditional Qing / Republic style form and retains considerable surface wear from previous use, giving it an appealing period display character.
