DESCRIPTION

Delicate Chinese porcelain wine cup decorated in famille verte enamels.

The exterior features two crickets among flowering plants, leaves, and ornamental rockwork in soft green, iron-red, yellow, and aubergine tones.

The shallow rounded form rises to a gently flared rim and retains a clean white interior.

Presented with a carved wooden display stand that complements the piece.

An attractive example of Qing period export or domestic decorative porcelain.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Crickets are popular symbols in Chinese decorative arts and are associated with happiness and auspicious wishes. A pair of crickets conveys the idea of double happiness, known as Shuang Xi. Comparable cricket-decorated wine cups are known from Qing dynasty porcelain production, including examples recovered from the Ca Mau shipwreck and preserved in museum collections.
