DESCRIPTION

A finely detailed 19th century Chinese Qing Dynasty watercolor painting on pith paper depicting a domestic interior scene. A seated gentleman dressed in a richly patterned green robe holds a small drinking cup while an attendant approaches carrying a red tray. A table beside the principal figure supports a teapot, serving tray and blue vase with foliage. The carefully rendered costumes, furniture and tea utensils are highlighted by vivid green, blue, red and purple pigments. Presented within a pale blue textile border and an attractive black frame with gilt decoration.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Chinese pith paper paintings were widely produced during the 19th century for the export market, with domestic life, occupations, costumes and social customs among the favored subjects.
