DESCRIPTION

A large Chinese porcelain vase decorated in the famille verte palette with a detailed narrative scene associated with the celebrated Tang dynasty general Guo Ziyi. The composition features mounted and standing figures, attendants, military banners and landscape elements painted in green, iron red, blue, black and other enamels. The reverse is decorated with trees, rocks and further figures, while the neck carries a continuous landscape scene. Geometric panels and iron red motifs enrich the shoulder, and the base bears an underglaze blue six-character Kangxi reign mark within double circles. An impressive decorative vase with detailed figure painting and strong visual presence.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Guo Ziyi was a celebrated Tang dynasty military general whose exploits became a popular subject in later Chinese art. This vase combines the traditional historical narrative with famille verte decoration and a Kangxi reign mark, reflecting the continuing influence of early Qing porcelain styles on later Chinese ceramics.
