DESCRIPTION
A Chinese snuff bottle formed in translucent ruby red Peking glass, dating to the late Qing or early 20th century. The bottle has a compact rounded rectangular body with gently sloping shoulders, a short cylindrical neck, and an oval recessed foot. The rich red glass displays attractive swirling and cloud-like variations throughout, giving the monochrome surface considerable depth when illuminated. The neck retains the central opening for the original stopper and spoon assembly, which is now absent. An appealing decorative example with strong color and a pleasing traditional snuff bottle form.
COLLECTOR’S NOTE
Chinese glass snuff bottles became an important collecting category during the Qing Dynasty, with monochrome examples admired for their color, translucency, and workmanship. Red glass was particularly effective in small vessels, where changing light reveals variations within the material. This example has an attractive ruby tone and classic compact proportions.
