DESCRIPTION
A Chinese Qing Dynasty painted enamel saucer of shaped rectangular form, decorated in a vivid famille jaune palette. The bright yellow ground is filled with scrolling green foliage, pink and blue flowers, surrounding a central cartouche depicting a traditional landscape with trees, rocks and a small pavilion. Additional flowering branches decorate the raised border, while the reverse is finished in a distinctive turquoise enamel. The shaped profile and colorful hand-painted decoration give the piece a lively decorative character typical of Chinese painted enamel wares.
COLLECTOR’S NOTE
Chinese painted enamel objects were admired for their brilliant colors and intricate decoration, combining metalwork with finely applied enamel surfaces. Yellow-ground floral designs and turquoise enamel backs are particularly associated with the rich decorative vocabulary of Qing Dynasty enamel production.
