SubjectBowl π·οΈ Marked Unmarked π Description
An impressive and finely decorated Chinese export porcelain bowl, dating to the Qianlong period (1736β1795), made for the American market and forming part of a rare armorial service.
This bowl is decorated on the both on sides with a finely painted family crest, featuring a shield enclosing the gilt cypher βEMCβ, beneath a canopy of blue and gilt drapery and tassels. The rim is richly detailed with cobalt blue diaper bands and gilded star motifs, while the handle is applied with delicate enamelled floral terminals.
This jug belongs to a service likely commissioned by or for a wealthy merchant or American family during the height of the China Trade era. Pieces from this service were probably produced in Jingdezhen and exported through Canton in the mid to late 18th century.
