DESCRIPTION
A small 19th century Chinese Qing Dynasty porcelain vase decorated in the Canton famille rose palette. The rounded body features a shaped figural panel depicting two Mandarin figures within a garden or terrace setting, painted in bright blue, pink, green and orange enamels with gilt accents. Scattered floral sprays and scrolling foliage decorate the surrounding white ground and elongated neck, while the flared mouth carries a floral border. The compact form and detailed hand painted decoration are characteristic of richly ornamented Canton export porcelain of the period.
COLLECTOR’S NOTE
Canton famille rose porcelain was produced in substantial quantities during the Qing Dynasty for the export market and is admired for its colorful figural scenes, floral ornament and gilding. Small-scale examples retain the elaborate decorative vocabulary of larger Canton wares and make attractive additions to collections of 19th century Chinese export porcelain.
