DESCRIPTION

An 18th century Chinese porcelain tankard dating to the Qing Dynasty, Qianlong period. The pale glazed body is decorated with fruiting lychee branches, flowering plants and foliage in famille rose enamels combined with strong underglaze blue. Fine iron-red and gilt details enrich the fruit and floral decoration, while the shaped loop handle carries additional painted ornament. The tankard stands on a neatly defined circular foot and displays the colorful decorative character associated with Chinese porcelain made during the Qianlong era.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Chinese porcelain tankards were produced in considerable variety during the 18th century, including examples intended for both domestic and export use. The combination of underglaze cobalt blue with famille rose enamels and gilding creates a particularly decorative palette characteristic of Qing porcelain production.
