DESCRIPTION
An 18th century Chinese porcelain saucer dating to the Qing Dynasty, Qianlong period. The center is painted with colorful famille rose flowering sprays in pink, purple, orange and brown enamels. A strong underglaze cobalt blue and white border surrounds the floral decoration, formed with repeating stylized motifs and a narrow inner band. The rim is finished with a gilt edge, providing a warm contrast to the blue and polychrome palette. An attractive example of Qianlong period Chinese export porcelain combining underglaze blue decoration with overglaze famille rose enamels.
COLLECTOR’S NOTE
The combination of underglaze cobalt blue with famille rose enamels became a distinctive decorative approach in 18th century Chinese export porcelain. Floral subjects and richly patterned borders were especially popular during the Qianlong period and were produced for overseas markets.
