DESCRIPTION
An attractive 18th century Chinese export porcelain saucer dating to the Qing Dynasty, Qianlong period. Hand-painted in vibrant Mandarin famille rose enamels, depicting four figures gathered in a traditional Chinese garden beside a pavilion, with a river, distant hills and trees in the background. The central scene features finely detailed robes in purple, blue, pink and green. The broad decorative border displays intricate iron-red geometric patterns, floral reserves and landscape panels with gilt highlights. A richly decorated example of Chinese export porcelain, displaying the colourful figure painting and elaborate ornament associated with the Qianlong period.
COLLECTOR’S NOTE
Mandarin famille rose porcelain was produced extensively for the European export market during the 18th century. These wares are admired for their colourful figure scenes, detailed landscapes and elaborate decorative borders. The combination of a lively garden gathering and richly patterned iron-red border makes this saucer an appealing example of Qianlong export porcelain, suitable for a period ceramics collection.
